Zoo Trip; Pest Control

Monday 23rd November
The Y7's & 8's travelled to the zoo by bus for our pest control data. Our goal was to collect as much data for our data but I decided not to. I wanted to enjoy as much as my time. I noticed they built in new construction and moved some animals into it. I most excited to see the kanagroos but didn't get to seem them. Instead we saw the emu's which were admiring.
Here's some information I collect:
- ostrich bodies are also much too heavy to fly
- an ostrich skeleton is similiar to a velociraptor's
- seals have pups, they can become very protective and many seem aggressive
- a tutara kauika whale is; baleen, beaked and toothed all traverse NZ waters

14 Auckland Beaches Decleared Unsafe

The Auckland City Council has decleared 14 beaches as being unsafe for swimming. The reason for the rates is due to sewage contamination. 14 beaches have such high levels of human or animal poo in amongest the water, if a human swam in it they could get seriously sick. Auckland Safeswim advises the public not to swim in these areas.

Plague of Peacocks HIT New Zealand!!

It may seem strange but the growing numbers of peacocks living wild in New Zealand is creating problems for the farmers. They eat pasture that livetock depends on, and their numbers are increasing thanks to the hunting of stoats and possums. Some experts believe the number in Northland currently exceeds 1,000!!

Joe Biden Wins 2020 Presidential Race

Joe Biden has won the race to become the next US President. Biden with 290 votes, Trump with 214 votes. Biden had released a statement saying "I am honoured and humbled by the trust of the American people that have placed in me and in Vice- President-elect Harris. With the campaign over, it's time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation". Who do you think should've won the US 2020 Elections?

Kayaking T4!

This Friday the Y7's & 8's planned a trip to Werowhite Water for kayaking. This would count as my second time kayaking. What did I enjoy? There were many things we did. Some I thought of as dangerous but it's alright. I enjoyed when I on purpose fell into the water. It was probably my biggest regret that but I'd do it again...but better.

My First Day Back At School/ T4

Wow, the last term for 2020. It's going to be a very hectic term as the year 8's will be going off to college. It was normal as usual and I'd say it went well. My friends and I catched up on our long conversations. Ending off the day, I realised that time goes by very fast.

Māori Language Week! 🇳🇿

This week is Māori Language Week. During this week I learnt about the interesting myths and legends about the Māori history. Hopefully everyone tried their best to learn something/new things about this culture. I enjoyed this week a lot because on Friday the Y7's & Y8's performed a haka for the outro of Room 6's assembly.

Technology: Control // T3W9

During this term my group exchanged classes. So now we'll be doing "Control". Specifically this week we tried out this quiz game. Basically you have a time limit and in that time limit, you have to select the correct dots that relate to the mbot (the machine you see on the picture)
Here is my best score that I got while playing this game.

Researching About Sleep

For inquiry Room 7 are researching and learning about sleeping. Sleeping is a daily thing we all use in our lifes and is apart of our priority. We divded into groups and found out lots of facts and information to use in our shared slideshow. One interesting statement I thought suprised me was when I researched about "Why we move in our sleep?".

When sleeping our brainstem (the side of brain connecting to your spinal cord) sends signals to weaken muscles which move your body. These muscles are being hypnotized by the brainstem which makes your body controlled by the brainstem. *Let's hope that makes sense*

Tongan Language Week! 🇹🇴

Happy Tongan Language Week!! As today is the second to last day of Tongan Language Week, I hope everyone had a great experience learning this culture.  We couldn't really celebrate as much since of Covid-19 but it doesn't mean we cannot celebrate it. I saw many sight seeing posts of people performing a tau'olunga and many more.
Ko ha uike fakaʻofoʻofa ʻeni! (English Translation: It was a great week)

Back To School After Lockdown...

During W4 in 2.5% of that week, Auckland went into lockdown alert level: 3. When students went back home after school, it was annouced that we were going back into lockdown again. I was VERY shocked to hear but also happy.
Now that we're back in school...I've realised I should've enjoyed my lockdown while it lasted. I've spent many days waking up late and took that for granted. If we ever go back into lockdown again, I'll be sure to never regret anything.

The Book "Guts" by Raina Telgemeier

Guts written by Raina Telgemeier.
When I first started to read this book, it caught my attention by how the sickness in the book is similar to Covid-19. It was really intriging to see how you don't know what others life consist of = their background. Made me realise that even if someone if being mean to you, they might be fighting their own battles. I think the title "Guts" symbolises that the 'bully' in the story had GUTS to confront her victim, what she was honestly suffering from.

Picasso Half Faces For Art !!

For art Ms. Mitchell taught us about picasso half faces. She put artworks from other students showing one face but halved with different colours. It was kind of like an illusion. Here's an example of what the artworks looked like:
I enjoyed doing this type of art because even if you made a mistake, they'd be no problem since it doesn't matter in the end. The techniques I used with colouring in was blending in two colours making them fade in to another.

Netflix; Pandemic Series

Yesterday Room 1 & 7 collaborated on watching a Netflix series = the pandemic. During today we wrote down as many important factual statements we should know about the virus. Some questions were difficult but together we managed to do perfectly fine.

What I noticed through the show is that the things we already knew about, we detailed so well...I understood more than before. It reminded me that this virus is nothing new even as it's not extremly deadly. Though our safety rules still apply to New Zealand, considering we're in L1!

First Day Back At School ll T3

We are now in term 3, halfway through the year. My holidays were the best so far and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to pretend being sick. The first day went well but I would say, it did feel weird considering how much change has happened within the holidays.
My goals for this term is to be more focused on my learning since college applications are starting. So much will be occuring this term so I'll try my bestest to achieve the goals this term before it's too late. Wish me luck!

LAST Day Of Term 2!

Today is the last day of school for term 2! Since it was mufti day, it was very exciting and weird to see everyone wear their normal clothes to school. Room 7 had shared lunch...of course the food was SOOO delicious.

As many dreadful things happened throughout this year, let's hope term 3 will be filled with more fun and intriging activities + learning. Good on me & other students for making it through another
term 2020! I'm proud of you.

Volleyball Competition!!

This Thursday the Y8's & Y7's competed the teachers at Ruapotaka School to a game of volleyball. It was very nervracking but I had a great time.

The girls played the first round and the boys played the last round. Overall we became a draw. Next time I want to
improve on not being scared of the ball if it isn't close to me.

Last Day Of Tech: W12 T2

Since this week is the last week of school for Term 2, this is our last day of technology. I completed a good amount of work over these few weeks and hopefully I get to continue my piece, when Term 3 begins. Through this process, I learnt many things about pewter casting. It was a cool experience!

Cybersmart - Reflecting On The Magic In Lockdown

Today I reflected on the magic I found in lockdown this year. As today was the last day for Ms. Collins it was very saddening as she taught us many experiences with quality comments etc.

🎉HAPPY 66TH BIRTHDAY TO RUAPOTAKA

Today marks Ruapotaka School's 66TH BIRTHDAY!! This school was welcomed to the community in 1954. I can't believe this school has been around over these past years.

Ruapotaka school celebrated today with a huge chocolate cake. The youngest & eldest students in the school had the opportunity to cut a piece of cake.

Maori Medicine

For reading we read about plants and what they produce to cure people. We came across a page which involved a chart full of native medicinal plants. Here are some that I found interesting.

Manuka: This plant features leaves, bark and seeds. The seeds are chewed for kidney problems and stomach aches. Leaves is infused for coughing, fever. Bark is used for diarrhoea.
Karamu: The part used for this plant is leaves. They are applied to aches, pains, cuts, sores and bruises.
Kawakawa: Leaves are used for this plant. This helps skin disease and boils. Which leaves are also used for toothache.

Learning Geometry!🧮

For these two weeks Room 7 have been learning about geometry & it's angles for maths. I'm really proud of myself as I did improve on measuring the reflex angles with an prostractor.

When using an prostractor you should read the numbers from the outside.

MaThS tEsT?!

Today I got tested for my individual maths test. I felt very nervous since my weakest subject in school is maths. The questions confused me..maybe because my head wasn't in a good place that afternoon.

I would say I succeeded in finishing what I could. Let's hope I did improve, if I didn't. Who knows if I'll carry on learning!

Storyline Online - The Empty Pot; Demi

I enjoyed reading this story because it tells the audience that by telling the truth, it can help in many different ways. Even though Ping couldn't create his flower to sprout, his honesty showed the Emperor that it's better to tell the truth...then lie.

Storyline Online - A Bad Case Of Stripes; David Shannon

Bad Case Of Stripes Written & Illustrated; David Shannon, was my favourite story my class read on 'Storyline Online'. This website allows everyone to listen to other people read stories to them including a variety of books to choose from.
This book for me realised you should always be yourself wether others find something you enjoy different from what they prefer. If you want to read this story, visit Storyline Oline

Me, Me & Me - By Renata Hopkins

Me Me And Me; By Renata Hopkins
The story is about a girl who felt left out since everyone around her had a phone. So she saved up enough money by vaccuming her gran's house and earned the right amount to buy the best deal "MeMe". When she had her phone, she repeadetly kept getting messages and distracted. She recieved a lot of messages from the app MeMe.
The problem in the story is that the phone was always clingy and wanted attention. She even had a dream that soon she would be trapped in the phone while the unknown escaped. It got to the point where whenever the girl went somewhere without her phone, it would send her mean messages. Finally she had the guts to take out the SIM card and destroy it.

 Word Definitions
blurted - saying something suddenly after trying hard to keep quiet or to keep it a secret.
shrill - sound is high-pitched and unpleasant
metallic - the sound of one piece of metal hitting another

Kiwi Kids News - Why Are Statues Coming Down Around The World?

A statue commemorating Captain John Hamilton was pulled down in Hamilton by the City Council on the 12 June. This was because the local iwi including community believed the statue was
culturally offensive.
This removal of the statue was inspired by protests for the 'Black Lives Matter' movement. The BLM protests are continuing and more people are dissucusing what can be done to make things for better minorities.

VOLLEYBALL!🏐

Today counts our second session playing volleyball as our ''Kiwi Sport''. For this session we learnt how to serve a ball & also played a couple games versing each other.
There's still a lot of work I need to achieve but I hope I can show improvement through my skills.

Lockdown: Level 1!!

This week New Zealand is currently on Alert, level 1. We should be extra careful as even though we're on level 1, there could still be a chance someone could engrave that disease.

I'm very happy about the news since I now can hangout with my friends + we're able to do more things. What are your thoughts moving into level 1?

TECH: Chromebook FIXED!

As my chromebook was finally repaired, that meant I could do my work at tech. What I did was easily transfer my information from the paper, to my chromebook.

During our time at tech, I kept a close eye to what the instructions were after we had finished writing our ideas. Hopefully next week I can start building up my way to complete my piece.

Number of Blog Posts 2016 - 2020

This is my bar graph about my blog posts from all the years I've been posting at this school. My favourite year when posting was 2017. I enjoyed how I could post about anything including fiction stories I wrote.

For 2020, I hope to work hard to reach 100 posts about what I think should be adressed personally. Example: the news. My adventure begins!

How MUCH Blogs Have I Done?

This is my graph on how much blog posts I did for a whole year starting from 2016 - 2019. I hope this year I can improve and increase the amount of daily blogging I do. If I can beat the number '48', I'll be proud of myself.

Winter Is Arriving?!!

As winter is arriving, its best we stay warm and protect ourselves from frostbites or anything that includes a viral disease. It's not a big deal unlike Covid-19 but as there are many possibilities, getting a viral infection + adding onto the pandemic.
The smartest thing to do is to be safe & covered in warm clothes!

Does Antarctica EXIST??

Antarctica is a content underneath at the bottom of the world hiding from the globe. This is a place where almost its entirely covered with ice and snow. There are no trees or mammals & hardly any humans come to visit.

Over the years, there was a time when a Greek Scholar who named it hadn't even been there. He thought there must be a place at the opposite of the world to the Artic. If you had the chance, would you visit Antarctica?
