Teachers Go On Strike!

Yesterday primary and secondary teachers go on strike for a better pay and the conditions of teaching. 50,000 teachers went on strike and some failed to turn up to school. Around 750,000 students weren't being taught while strike was happening.

A number of teachers protested through the main cities, regarding a better deal of their payment from the government. The government offered teachers a 3 percent pay rise for the next three years. Teachers across the country believe that is not enough.

In my opinion teachers going on strike is important because in the next five or six years there might not be anymore teachers available. Without teachers there would be no one to teach the students about education.

New Zealand Teachers Are Going On Strike?

Tomorrow primary and secondary teachers across New Zealand are going on strike. They will all be combined and will have a "MEGA strike" held on 29th May.

The joint strike will be the largest business action taken in New Zealand. Involving 50,000 teachers from primary and secondary. Both groups have been unable to agree with the government for her new deal for payment.

What are your opinions on the mega strike tomorrow?

Goodbye Cooking Class!☹️

Today was our last day with Mrs Tuipolotu for cooking class. I was extremely sad because I learnt so many things during cooking class and now, finally I can cook for my family. For our last day at cooking class we cooked chocolate muffins.

The instructions were clear and simple which made me not as anxious that much. The hardest part in the process was folding the ingredients but not mixing it. Agueer taught me out to fold all of the ingredients inside the bowl. Now I know how to fold.

Finishing results amazed me because they turned out DELICIOUS! In the picture the green and purple cupcake liners are Agueer's cupcakes and the pink and yellow liners are mine. To top our beautiful muffins, we had the chance to whip whip cream on one of our muffins.

As soon as I tasted the chocolate muffin it was the best thing I've tasted at cooking class. It was the perfect meal to end off cooking class

Football Interschool 2019

On Wednesday some year 5/6 boys, and year 7/8 girls were chosen for soccer and to compete with other schools at Point England Reserve. The first school Ruapotaka played against was Panmure District which came all the way from Mt. Wellington.
The year 5/6 boys won two games while the year 7/8 girls came a tie in three games and lost 5 games. At break we mostly ate chocolate, lollies and a lot of unhealthy junk food. It was a fun experience to go football inter school.

Back To Cooking!

Today was term 2 week 1 of Tech. I was very excited to see what we'll be cooking for this week. For Tech this week we cooked ''Potato Salad with Ham and Egg.'' It was a new experience of food tasting and it was incredibly delicious.

The hardest part in the process was chopping the vegetables, as what it said on the whiteboard. Agueer and I had a really tough time but we managed to push through the pain.

Ruapotaka ANZAC Assembly 2019

Last term on Friday, Ruapotaka School had a special ANZAC service to remember the soldiers who fought in the Gallipoli war. Someone students wore their poppy that they bought with their $1 coin.

Each class created their own ANZAC presentation to represent ANZAC. Room 12's presentation was full of poppies to support the soldiers who lost their lives on the poppy field. It was a very emotional day for everyone.

Kiwi Can Session

Today Ruapotaka School had the opportunity to meet the Kiwi Can Company. Our Kiwi Can tutors for this week were Miss Tuia and Mrs Mac.

We have a theme and topic for each week throughout the term. This week our theme was integrity and our topic was honesty

Integrity - Being honest
Honesty - Telling the truth

We did three activities with Kiwi Can. Overall my favourite activity was Changes because I was most honest in that game. I was glad that I had a super time. I had a great experience with Kiwi Can and I can't wait until next week!

Jacinda Ardern And Prince William Visit Christchurch Mosque

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Prince William flew to Christchurch to meet the victims who survived and families. Prince William met about 160 survivors and family members at the Mosque.

Prince William talked about how Christchurch and New Zealand's feedback to the shooting was an example to inspire the world. He thanked the work of emergency staff, especially the police and hospital staff.

Overall it was respectful and kind of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Prince William, to visit the victims and families of the horrifying incident.

Sam Verlinden Visits Ruapotaka School

Yesterday Ruapotaka School had a special guest to visit Ruapotaka School called Sam Verlinden. He talked about how reading helped him to be a musical artist. At the duffy assembly he spoke about how he wanted to be smarter than a boy at his school.

To increase his intelligence, he decided to read books everyday to learn new words. I was very interested to see what his music is like. Sam Verlinden encouraged us that with reading you can get really interesting professions.
