A statue commemorating Captain John Hamilton was pulled down in Hamilton by the City Council on the 12 June. This was because the local iwi including community believed the statue was
culturally offensive.
This removal of the statue was inspired by protests for the 'Black Lives Matter' movement. The BLM protests are continuing and more people are dissucusing what can be done to make things for better minorities.
